One dated table of USPSTF recommendations, checked row by row against the live USPSTF site, and updated when a grade changes.

What goes in

  • Only USPSTF recommendations with grade A or B. (USPSTF grade definitions) These are the ones the USPSTF recommends offering. What each grade means in plain words: USPSTF grades explained. Grades C, D and I are mentioned on each screening page so you can see where the line is, but they are not in the planner.
  • Only screenings and risk assessments for non-pregnant adults. Counseling, medicines (such as statins), pregnancy and childhood recommendations are left out.
  • For each row we store the grade, the release date, the ages, the sex it applies to, any risk factor it needs, the interval in the USPSTF's words, and the link.

How the planner works

The planner keeps a row when your age is inside its range, your sex matches (or the row applies to everyone), and you ticked every risk factor the row needs. A 20 pack-year smoking history counts as having ever smoked. Rows that match your age and sex but need an unticked risk factor are listed separately under "Also ask your doctor about". The planner does not ask about sexual history, hepatitis B risk or tuberculosis risk, which are hard to judge from a checkbox and sensitive to keep in a link, so the USPSTF screenings that depend on them (chlamydia and gonorrhea, syphilis, hepatitis B and latent tuberculosis) always appear in that list for the ages they cover. The code runs in your browser and is covered by automated tests, including every age boundary in the table.

Calendar reminders repeat at the interval the USPSTF gives. When it gives a range (blood pressure every 3 to 5 years under 40, cervical every 3 or 5 years), the reminder uses the shorter one. When it sets no interval, the reminder happens once.

How we check it

Each row was compared with its live USPSTF recommendation page and the USPSTF A and B list. The date of that check is shown below and on every page. When the USPSTF has a draft update in progress, we keep the final statement and say so on the page.

Cervical cancer: the USPSTF posted a draft update on December 10, 2024. On 2026-10-25 it was still a draft, so we follow the final 2018 statement. (USPSTF draft)

Know your numbers

The ranges come straight from the organization named next to each one: the American Heart Association for blood pressure, the American Diabetes Association for A1c and glucose, the CDC for BMI and cholesterol testing, and the NIH for healthy cholesterol levels and waist size. We do not compute risk scores.

Updates

We recheck the table whenever the USPSTF publishes a final recommendation for one of these topics. Each page shows its "Last reviewed" date.
