Screenings by age

Screenings for women over 75

At 75 the grade A colorectal range ends; from 76 to 85 it is a case-by-case choice. For mammograms after 74 the evidence is not enough to decide (grade I). Bone density screening continues. (USPSTF, 2021) (USPSTF, 2024) (USPSTF, 2025)

What starts and what can stop, 75 and older

  • Colorectal cancer: The grade A range ends at 75. From 76 to 85 the USPSTF advises screening selectively, based on overall health, past screening and preferences (grade C). (USPSTF, 2021)
  • Lung cancer: At 80, or once a person has not smoked for 15 years, or if a health problem substantially limits life expectancy or the ability or willingness to have lung surgery. (USPSTF, 2021)
  • Hepatitis C: The grade B range ends at 79. Most adults need it only once. (USPSTF, 2020)

Hearing and eye checks are not on the USPSTF A and B list; what the USPSTF, eye doctors and Medicare say: hearing and vision checks for older adults.

Which of these repeat every year, and which only every 2, 3 or 5 years: what tests should a woman have every year.

Prevention for women over 75: medicines and habits

Not screenings, but USPSTF-graded steps that can apply to women 75 and older. Each applies only to some people; the line says who.
